Enhance your next event with some intimate four-part harmonies, have a look our quartets:
Ms. Cellaneous is a relatively new quartet that formed just before Region 21’s Spring contest in April, 2010 and earned their first medal as a quartet in 2011 placing 5th overall. They describe themselves as an accumulation of odds and ends (everything short of the kitchen sink). The tenor, Mary Branham, of Chandler, Arizona, is a computer guru, always looking for the latest technology. The lead, Chris Robertson, of Yucaipa, California, is a retired High School Math Teacher, have slide rule, will travel! The bass, Sarah Slade, of Chandler, Arizona, is a diehard baseball fan – Go Diamondbacks! The baritone, Susan Phinney, of Long Beach, California, is a fashionista heavy into men’s pants. Now don’t panic she works for Levi Strauss. These women all share a common love of four legged creatures, road trips and breakfast at 3 am at Denny’s. Put it all together and you have four ladies who like to live, laugh and love life to the fullest via their barbershop harmony! Mary and Sarah are members of the 2011 International Chorus Champions The Scottsdale Chorus. Chris and Susan are members of the 2011 International Silver Medalist Chorus Harborlites. A good quartet needs a good mixture of ingredients - talent, experience, vocal blend and a touch of showmanship - and that's what you have with The Mix. All have extensive quartet experience and are longtime members of Sweet Adelines International and the international championship Scottsdale Chorus. They have a combined 84 years of singing four-part barbershop harmony, but don't let all of those years fool you. They bring a youthful attitude and sound to a performance that thrills audiences and leaves them wanting more. Marsha Shaw, the lead, is the veteran of the group who started singing as a teenager. Cathie Sturm, the tenor, is Marsha and Bill's daughter who began singing at home with the encouragement of Mom and Dad. That led to a career as a music teacher as well as operatic singing and a budding interest in music arranging. Linda Myer, a tenor who switched to the baritone part to sing with her friends in The Mix, also has tried her hand as an arranger and music writer and is known for writing clever parodies. The bass, Robin McElfresh, also switched parts at one point after singing lead for a number of years in quartets and choruses. Given the opportunity to hear The Mix, you're sure to find that they offer the perfect blend of talent, harmony and pizzazz that will leave you wanting more.
