We love our music and we cherish our chorus mates, but the members of the Scottsdale Chorus feel it’s incumbent upon us to look outward and share our talents and time in the larger community. This listing of our outreach efforts is necessarily unfinished.

Chorus Community Outreach

Each year during the holidays, the chorus sponsors a kindergarten class of under-privileged children at the Wilson Elementary School. Santa delivers gifts galore during a special luncheon party attended by "believing" faculty and kids alike.

Chorus volunteers made regular visits over a six-week period to teach music and our special style of four-part harmony singing at the Black Canyon School, a state-run juvenile detention school for girls. The program came to a successful conclusion with a holiday party and a full-chorus recital for friends and family.

In downtown Phoenix, the Scottsdale Chorus serenaded participants in the Alzheimer's Walk-a-Thon to help raise community awareness of and support for curing this catastrophic disease.

On Labor Day weekend, September 2nd and 3rd, 2007, 19 volunteers manned the phones to help raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Jerry Lewis' MDA Labor Day Telethon. These are but a few of the smiling faces that were seen on Channel 3 throughout the two day long telethon.

As an ongoing project, chorus members volunteer to help in the Young Women in Harmony program, a Sweet Adelines International program which focuses on acquainting young female singers with the barbershop style, primarily in school-based choruses and quartets.
